My experiment

I own another great domain name.

It is newjerseyshorevacationrentals dot com.

I copied the problem page to this domain. I altered the content, but left all of the html the same to see if I could get the page to index.

I was able to.

I'm just not sure how to interpret the results.

Now a PR5

Well, looks like the site went from PR4 to PR5.

But, still has this problem.

An error at Google?

I am hypothesizing that there is a possible error at google. What else could this problem possibly be?

I don't think the page is penalized. Here is why I think this: The rest of the site gets a great amount of traffic. If I was bad in google's eyes, why would they still send me tons of good quality traffic to my deeper pages?

The page is indexed and is PR4, so why not show up in serps for any search phrase (even the most noncompetitive phrase you could think of)

I follow the webmaster guidelines.

I don't think it's a technical issue. If it was technical, I think other search engines would have the same problem. If yahoo and msn could resolve a small tech issues, then why can't the big G?

Could it be possible there is an error at google? My opinion is yes!

Other engines

This page ranks well on all other search engines. In many instances the page appears on page #1 for some good keywords in other search engines.

This makes me think there is no technical issue. If there is a technical issue, why could other engines get past it, but the "King of search" can't?

Google gave the site sitelinks!

Here is even another loop thrown into my totally confusing dilemma. Google has generated sitelinks for my site! I know this by using webmaster tools.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know a lot about sitelinks, but what I do know is that they are a good thing and it is a good thing to have them.

Not all web sites get sitelinks. There must be something on google's side that generates these sitelinks. I would guess that they would need to find you at least a little bit trustworthy before they generate sitelinks for you. So with that being said, why I am having this problem with my home page???

At this point, in my opinion (remember this is my opinion), I think there is an error at google and my site is suffering because of this error. This is just my assumption, but I have no evidence to suggest otherwise.

The problem

Here is a simple description of the problem:
The home page of the site does not show up in serps.

Take any unique phrase from the home page, place double quotes around it, and google it. You will get no results when my home page should show up.

THIS PAGE IS INDEXED.

THE PROBLEM IS NOT THAT I AM TRYING TO RANK FOR COMPETITIVE KEYWORDS. THE PAGE WILL NOT SHOW UP FOR ANY KEYWORD.

Here are some other facts:
No other page on the site has this problem. The deep pages on the site get a very generous amount of traffic from Google.

The page is a PR4.

There is no reason that I can think of to cause this problem. This has been like this since the creation of the site (about 1l.5 yrs ago). At first I thought I was sandboxed. After 1 year I realized sandbox was not the problem.

Part of me really wants to believe this is an error at Google!!!

The purpose of this blog.

I am creating this blog to try to get some help! I also wonder if other people have a similar problem.

It seems as if google just doesn't like my website. I cannot figure out why. I follow all of their guidelines. I've posted on every seo forum that I know of and even the experts can't seem to figure out this one. I have gotten many responses from people who say "Work on your link profile." This seems to always be the answer when you don't know what the answer actually is. Part of me actually thinks there could be an error somewhere with google and this is causing my site's problem.

My goal with this blog is to hopefully get some attention from the seo world. Maybe one of the true experts will be able to notice something that no one else was able to notice.

Just for the record, I do not consider myself an seo expert, but I do have some knowledge about the topic. I have been learning seo on an "as needed" basis.

By the way, my website is www(dot)njshore-rentals(dot)com

I typed out the address like that because I really don't want to create a cheesy link to my site. The purpose of this blog is not to give the site a link.

With my next post, I'll post details about the actual problem.

Thanks for reading.
